The science of learning has for several years been integral to teacher training and professional development. In the first of two parts, Dr Stefani Milovanska-Farrington summarizes some major lessons on information retention from the Science of Learning, reflects on how this research evidence relates to teaching economics, and provides thoughts on teaching the subject in an engaging way that encourages discussions and higher-level thinking. In the next issue she recommends teaching economics through worksheets with questions based on news stories that provide interesting real-world examples of the material covered in class that students can relate to, provides tips on how educators could create questions, and references a resource “Choice: Economics materials for success” as an example for introductory economics classes.
